MHD has been using high gloss lacquer for over a decade now and well we aren’t going back. There is just something so elevated and elegant about adding a high gloss lacquer SOMETHING into a room. We’ve done cabinetry, ceilings (a personal fave) walls, trim, millwork and of course sometimes we purchase pieces that come in a gloss lacquer. In our office we did all of our interior doors in a high gloss pale blue lacquer and they still thrill me whenever I look at them. Simple slab doors that instantly are elevated by the addition of that high sheen gloss. Lacquered walls are not an inexpensive, DIY option. Proper lacquer takes COATS OF COATS and sanding in between. If you are thinking about doing walls, expect the trade you’ve contracted to do the work, to become an additional family member (prep, ventilation, sealing the space off are a whole other discussion). Cabinetry and millwork/trim can be sprayed with a catalyzed lacquer in a gloss sheen. Again this has to be done under the right circumstances because it can go a bit sideways on you if the coats are too thick, don’t dry or cure properly. Definitely work with experienced trades….
